They say that everything is bigger in Texas and the same must be true when it comes to appetites because you can’t walk two steps in Austin without seeing an amazing restaurant. Seriously, you can’t spit without hitting one and if you aren’t hearing about them on the radio you’re seeing ads for some of the best restaurants in Texas inserted between your favorite shows on your Direct TV Austin service. In fact, there are so many restaurants that I have created a small list of ones you really need to check out.

1. Uchi and Uchiko – One has a taste of the present and one gives you a taste of the past, both are fantastic Japanese dining options and a breath of fresh air in a state mostly predominated by barbecue and fried foods.

2. Green Pastures Restaurant – Looking like an old country home on the outside, you will get an authentic dining experience the way it used it be done way back when.

3. Threadgill’s – Learn the meaning of “dang” in a restaurant where the ambiance is like you’ve entered into an old Western.

And that’s just to start. There are so many more so get out there and treat yourself.

Austin is an ideal city for vacationing on a budget. Much of the city’s culture forms around the variety of public outdoor and natural spaces. Also, free or inexpensive festivals and events litter the calendar all year long.

The Barton Creek Greenbelt is the city’s pride and joy. Winding it’s way through the center of the city, it’s a free haven for swimming, mountain biking, rock climbing, and a variety of other outdoor activities. Hike along the trail and discover waterfalls and swimming holes.

Blues on the Green is a free concert series every summer at Zilker Park. It features major, often local, artists. Also in the Zilker Park area, you’ll find sculputre and botanical gardens, as well as Barton Springs. If relief from the summer heat is high on your to-do list, nothing beats a swim in Barton Springs. Fed by natural spring water that measures 68-70 degrees year round, it’s a refreshing escape from the sun.

If your hobby is people watching or window shopping, head over to South Congress. Just south of the river is a wonder of botique shops and food options. You’ll have to be careful here, as your budget is constantly in danger from the unique goods tempting you in every window.

No matter if your preference is outdoors or urban, you’ll find wonderful free or inexpensive activities in Austin, Texas.

There are many things for adults to enjoy in the infamous Austin, but many don’t realize that it could be an outstanding trip for children. Children have the opportunity to enjoy the culture of the residents, as well as exciting adventures. Finding thing to do with the kids in Austin isn’t as difficult as one may think.

Golfing in Austin, Texas is a thing of great beauty. Take the Riverside, for instance. What a beautiful place to spend a day honing your golfing skills, lamenting your lack of them, or just relaxing with friends while taking a stroll through the trees and rolling hills, plus it’s one of the best golf values in Austin.

If you’re in the market for a resort golf vacation and an elite fee doesn’t bother you, however, look no further than Barton Creek. The views and atmosphere of any of their four courses with caves, waterfall features, creeks bubbling nearby, and beautiful ponds provide sublime golfing conditions. Specifically, Fazio Foothills at Barton Creek is nothing short of breathtaking.

In the vein of country clubs and world-class caliber golfing, one must not overlook the gorgeous Austin golf offerings of The Hills Country Club and Lakeway Country Club. Live Oak at Lakeway has a hole named “Jaws.” That alone is enough to make me want to visit!

If you’re a golf history buff, visiting the Hancock Golf Course, the oldest in the state of Texas, is essential. This compact and appealing design was common in the era of 1899, and is a regional must-see.
